Activities The Saskatchewan Thoracic Society holds an Education Day each year in conjunction with its annual meeting. The Ferguson Lectureship, established in honour of Dr. R. George Ferguson, the former Medical Superintendent of the Saskatchewan Anti-Tuberculosis League, is held at the conference. When George Ferguson and Tuberculosis met in Saskatchewan in October 1917, all the ingredients were there for epic achievement. Because they met, we pay tribute. The STS established the R. G. Ferguson Lecture in 1994. The 2001 Professional Education Day, held on October 13, 2001 at the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon, was a great success. Attendance was up significantly from the previous year's event. A special thank you to our speakers and sponsors who helped to make our education day possible. A date for the 2002 Education Day will be set early in the new year. Other STS activities include: participation on the SAIL Home Respiratory Therapy Committee; development of guidelines for interactions with industry; development of alph-1-antitrypsin replacement therapy guidelines; and production of bulletins on lung reduction surgery for emphysema.
