What Is Pneumonia? Causes Prevention Treatment

When Is Vaccination Appropriate?
  • Vaccination against pneumococcal infection is appropriate at any time during the year
  • This vaccination is covered by certain Provinces under their Provincial Health Care Plan. Ask your physician if the pneumococcal vaccine is covered in your Province
  • Office or clinic visits for routine checkups or physicals are good times to consult with your physician to decide if you should be vaccinated
  • Unlike the "flu" vaccine, pneumococcal pneumonia is not seasonal and does not require repeat immunization on a yearly basis
  • Routine revaccination is not recommended except under certain circumstances. Revaccination is recommended for children and adults at highest risk for fatal infection and for those shown to have had a rapid decline in pneumococcal antibody levels, such as patients with nephrotic syndrome, renal failure, or transplant recipients. Ask your physician if revaccination is appropriate for you

Vaccination against pneumococcal pneumonia might be right for you. Ask your physician.
